Testing Your Receptionist

Once you have configured your AI receptionist, use the Playground to test it. The Playground lets you hear exactly how your receptionist will sound to callers, verify that workflows are working, and share a demo with others.

Accessing the Playground

The Playground is available from within the Receptionist page. The page header reads Playground and prompts you with "How would you like to connect?" followed by "Choose your preferred way to test."

Testing Options

The Playground presents up to three options depending on your account type and subscription:

Join Audio

Click the Join Audio card to start a voice call directly in your browser. This opens an in-browser audio session where you can speak to your receptionist as if you were a real caller.

What to know:

  • The call happens entirely in your browser -- no phone needed
  • Text SMS sending and call transferring do not work during browser-based test calls
  • Your account must have available voice credits to make a test call

After selecting Join Audio, the heading changes to Join Audio and the call interface appears. Click the close button (X) to end the session and return to the card selection screen.

Receive Call

Click the Receive Call card to have your AI receptionist call your testing number. This is the most realistic way to test because the call comes through on an actual phone.

What to know:

  • The call goes to the testing number configured on your account
  • Testing calls have a maximum duration of 15 minutes
  • If you do not have the testing phone with you, click the button labeled "I don't have [your number] with me" to open the Change Testing Number form and update it
  • Your account must have available voice credits

After selecting Receive Call, the screen shows "Calling [your testing number]..." with a Cancel button to stop the call.

Share Demo

Click the Share Demo card to copy a shareable link to your clipboard. Anyone with this link can interact with your receptionist demo.

What to know:

  • The shareable URL is copied automatically when you click the card
  • A confirmation appears: "URL copied to clipboard!"
  • You can click Copy Link Again to copy it a second time
  • This option is available to account owners

Credit Requirements

Before any test call (Join Audio or Receive Call), the system checks whether your account has sufficient voice credits. If you do not have enough credits, an Insufficient Credits modal appears with options to:

  • Start a subscription trial
  • Manage your credits

The insufficient credits modal shows different options based on your account type. Paid users see a Manage Credits button, demo users see Start Subscription, and reseller clients without an active subscription see a Close button with a message to contact their administrator.

Changing Your Testing Number

If you need to receive test calls on a different phone:

  1. Select Receive Call in the Playground
  2. Click the button that says "I don't have [your number] with me"
  3. The Change Testing Number modal opens
  4. Enter your new phone number
  5. Submit the form

Your testing number updates immediately and future test calls will go to the new number.

Verification

The Playground uses reCAPTCHA verification to prevent abuse. This runs automatically in the background when the page loads -- you do not need to take any action.

Tips for Effective Testing

  • Test after each configuration change. Made a new texting workflow? Test it. Changed the greeting? Test it. This way you catch issues early.

  • Use Receive Call for the full experience. Browser-based calls (Join Audio) do not support SMS or call transfers. To test those features, use Receive Call.

  • Share your demo link for feedback. Before going live, send the share link to a colleague or friend and ask them to call in. Fresh ears catch things you might miss.

  • Check your call logs after testing. Every test call appears in your Call Log Inbox with a full transcript and summary. Review these to see exactly what the AI said and how it handled the conversation.
