Connect Frontdesk to Claude or ChatGPT
Use Frontdesk from Claude or ChatGPT to inspect your AI receptionist, review CRM fields and follow-up sequences, and preview supported configuration changes before applying them.
MCP access is currently invite-only. Contact Frontdesk support to enable your organization. A custom connection does not mean Frontdesk is already listed in either public directory.
Before you connect
- Sign in to the Frontdesk account that belongs to the organization you want to manage.
- Use a Claude or ChatGPT account that supports custom remote MCP connections. Your workspace administrator may need to enable this feature or add the connection.
- Have access to the relevant Frontdesk organization and agents. Connecting does not give you additional Frontdesk roles or paid features.
Use this server URL:
https://mcp.myaifrontdeskadmin.com/mcp
Choose OAuth if asked for an authentication method. The server supports dynamic client registration. Leave client ID and client secret blank when your client offers that option. You do not need a CRM API key or a staff-issued MCP token for this account-linking flow.
Connect from Claude
- Open Claude's Settings → Connectors. In a managed workspace, an owner may need to add the connector through organization settings first.
- Add a custom connector named Frontdesk, using the server URL above.
- Start the connection. Sign in on the Frontdesk page if prompted.
- Review the organization, agents, and permissions as described below, then select Connect account.
- Return to Claude and enable Frontdesk in the conversation where you want to use it.
See Claude's custom connector instructions if your account uses different menu labels.
Connect from ChatGPT
- Open Plugins → Add → Add custom MCP server. Account and workspace settings can affect whether this option appears.
- Enter Frontdesk as the name and the server URL above. Choose OAuth if prompted.
- Create the custom plugin, then choose Connect or Continue to Frontdesk.
- Sign in to Frontdesk, review the connection permissions, and select Connect account.
- Back in ChatGPT, open the Frontdesk plugin and choose Try in chat, or select Frontdesk in a new conversation.
See OpenAI's connection instructions for current account and workspace requirements.
Choose what the connection can access
Each connection is scoped to one organization and the agents you select. Create another connection if you need a different organization.
- View allows reads in the selected category.
- Edit permits supported changes in that category. Your normal Frontdesk permissions and feature access still apply.
- Allow live actions is separate. These actions can send messages, trigger automations, place calls, or use credits. Enable it only when you intend to use those capabilities. Your organization's MCP access settings may still exclude them.
Account-level permissions, such as CRM access, apply to the selected organization. Agent selection limits agent-specific operations. Tools available in the AI client depend on both the permissions you approve and your organization's enabled operations.
Start with View permissions and enable only the Edit categories you need. To change the organization, agents, or permissions later, disconnect and create a new connection.
Try your first requests
Replace the names below with your organization and agent names:
Show which Frontdesk organization and agents this connection can access. Read the greeting for my receptionist without changing it.
List my CRM fields and follow-up sequences. Explain the branches in a sequence without enabling it or enrolling contacts.
Preview changing my receptionist's greeting to “Thanks for calling. How can I help?” Show the original and proposed text, and wait for my approval.
Review changes before applying them
Supported write tools stage a preview first. Creating a preview does not apply the change. Review the target organization, agent, proposed values, and any live effects before approving the commit. Your AI client may show an additional tool approval prompt.
Previews expire after 10 minutes. If one expires, ask for a fresh preview. After a successful change, ask the assistant to read the value back. To undo a setting change, preview and approve restoring its previous value. Actions such as sent messages or completed calls cannot be undone by restoring a setting.
If a commit times out or its outcome is unknown, check its status and the current Frontdesk value before trying again. Do not blindly create and commit a replacement change.
Disconnect or reconnect
Open Frontdesk connected apps to revoke a connection. Revocation prevents further access through that connection, including token refresh. It does not reverse changes already made.
A connection lasts up to 30 days. The client refreshes shorter-lived access tokens during that period. Reconnect when the connection expires, is revoked, or the client reports that authorization must be renewed.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Custom connector creation is unavailable | Ask your Claude or ChatGPT workspace administrator to enable custom MCP connections. |
| Your organization cannot connect | Ask Frontdesk support to confirm that the organization is enabled for the MCP pilot. |
| The organization or agent is missing | Check which Frontdesk account you signed in with and its organization membership. Select the agent explicitly on the consent screen. |
| A tool or editing permission is unavailable | Check the connection's grants, your Frontdesk role and plan, and your organization's MCP settings. Reconnect if you need to change the grants. |
| The authorization request expired | Restart the connection from Claude or ChatGPT instead of reusing an old consent link. |
| The chatbot configuration read returns a 422 error | An unconfigured chatbot currently produces a generic error. Check chatbot setup in Frontdesk; the same error can also indicate other validation or access problems. |
| A change failed or its outcome is unclear | Read the current value in Frontdesk and check the mutation status before retrying. Contact support if the outcome remains unknown. |
Only request account data you intend to share with the connected AI service. Tool responses may include prompts, CRM data, and other customer-entered content. See the Frontdesk privacy policy and your AI provider's data settings.
For help, use Frontdesk support. Include the client, time, operation name, and error message. Do not include passwords or access tokens.
